In the wake of the Civil War, many veterans of the Confederate forces
returned to disorganization and suffering in their homes. Among the returning
Confederates was a young cadet at the Virginia Military Institute and
distinguished veteran of the Battle of New Market named Otis Allan
Glazebrook. Spurred by the tragedy of defeat he saw around him and the pain
being felt by the entire country, he sought to help begin the healing process.
His solution was to form a fraternal order of outstanding young men to be
spread around the country with the aim of uniting one another in brotherhood
and under high moral ideals. And so, with the help of his fellow cadets,
Erskine Mayo Ross and Alfred Marshall, Glazebrook formed the Alpha
chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity in the fall of 1865. From VMI, the
fraternity soon began to spread across the south with the founding of the
Virginia Beta chapter at Washington and Lee University.

In January 2006, Chris Trott recruited many promising men at Florida Tech to start our colony. History at Florida Tech was made on Sunday, February 12, 2006 when 21 men got initiated.
